Second Place Gives Klodden Basque Tour Win

A second place in the final individual time trial was enough to give Andreas Klodden victory in the Basque Tour.

Manuele Boaro of Saxo Bank-SunGard was the first on the 24km course in setting a time of 35:16 in Zalla.

HTC Highroad's Tony Martin (pictured below) had been favourite for the stage and the German did not disappoint with a blistering ride which saw him come home in a time of 32:15.

Britain's Steve Cummings came in 61st. Fellow German Andreas Klodden set the fastest time at the halfway point but came in nine seconds down to Martin whilst Joaquim Rodriquez who had been wearing the leaders yellow jersey was two minutes down and Martin took the stage victory whilst Klodden took his first race win since 2008 with Britain's Steve Cummings coming 61st.

"The goal of the week here was to win today, and that's what I've acheived," Martin said afterwards to the HTC Highroad Press Office.

"I had a bit of a break after Paris-Nice and when I started this race I knew that I wasn't going to be at 100 percent straight away."

"But I've ended the race in great condition, and this win is the confirmation."
