Cannondale's Peter Sagan won the Grand Prix De Montreal with a solo victory.

After Friday night's exertions in Quebec, the second race in this two annual UCI race series saw the riders in a strong field move to Montreal for a race of seventeen laps of a 12.1km circuit.

Zac Bell, Danielle Hondo, Agnoli, Perez, Serge Paulinho, Will Clarke & Adriano Malori were the escapers and Agnoli took the first King Of The Mountains climb.

They were averaging 37km/h and were a kilometre and a half ahead of the Team Sky led peloton with 84kms to go.

Twenty four kilometres later, there was a crash which saw Chris Froome and Jonathan Tiernan-Locke hit the ground.

The five escapers avoided this but just after Malori took this King Of The Mountains points up to nine, the escapers started to be caught.

There was a second split before David Vellieux of Europcar, who is retiring, was allowed his moment of glory to salute the crowd before joining the likes of Geraint Thomas, Tiernan-Locke and Richie Porte in abandoning.

Herrada, Kolobnev, Oss, Cunego, Gorka Izaguirre, Wellens & Cyril Gautier took to the front, gaining a 25 second lead with 23kms to go.

As the abandonments continued with Andy Schleck amongst those pulling out, Cannondale's Peter Sagan nullified the attack.

More attacks followed with Orica Green Edge's Michael Albasini having a go ahead of a strong group which included Peter Sagan and Chris Froome who went on the attack with 8.2kms to go.

Sagan brought the group back up to Froome, so Garmin's Ryder Hesjedal took over but with 4.8kms left, Sagan flew past the Canadian and surged up the road.

The Cannondale rider opened up a fifteen second lead before Hesjedal came back. Segan kept going and won in 5.20.06 with Astana's Ponzi second four seconds back and Ryder Hesjedal third and five seconds back
