Sagan Take Tour De Suisse Stage Six Victory

Peter Sagan of Tinkoff Saxo has taken victory in the sixth stage of the Tour De Suisse.

With Thibaut Pinot of FDJ in the lead of the race after his win on stage five, stage six was 193.1kms long and from Wil SG to Biel/Bienne.

Four riders in Axel Domont (AG2R La Mondiale), Marek Rutkiweicz (CCC Sprandi), Matej Mohoric (Cannondale-Garmin) and Jérôme Baugnies (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) broke clear and were 2.40 ahead with 155kms left.

As the escapers passed Zurich Airport, their lead increased to 4.30 before dropping down to 3.50 as Marek Rutkiewicz was first over the Auensteinstrasse climb, followed by Domont and Matej Mohoric. 

The rain was coming down as the gap dropped to 1.53 with 44kms to go before Jérôme Baugnies took the points at the first intermediate sprint.

Going into the last thirty kilometres and Malori and Ventoso.of Movistar jumped out of the peloton and got to within a minute of the front four.

With twelve kilometres remaining, Those in the break were fifty seconds clear of the peloton which was twenty five seconds behind the Movistar duo. 

Zedenek Stybar crashed with five kilometres left as the peloton closed in and with just over a kilometre left, the escapers were caught.

The bunch sprint was a mere formality and it was Peter Sagan of Tinkoff Saxo who had come from behind Mark Renshaw, who in turn had lost Mark Cavendish, who took the win in 4:34:43 ahead of Jurgen Roelandts of Lotto Soudal, Alexander Kristoff of Katusha, Jean-Pierre Drucker of BMC, Daniele Bennati of Tinkoff-Saxo and Mark Cavendish, who was two seconds back.

The race leader Thibaut Pinot finished safely and keeps his jersey with a 42 second lead over Team Sky's Geraint Thomas.
