Rohan Dennis Wins US Pro Tour Challenge Time Trial

Rohan Dennis of BMC extended his lead in the US Pro Tour Challenge with victory in the Time Trial.

The time trial on stage five was 14km's long trial in Breckenridge with a climb at altitude.

Kristin Armstrong ofTwenty16 p/b Sho-Air set an early time to beat of 21:24 before Jamis-Hagens Berman's David Williams finished in 19:34 and Bartosz Warchol (Cycling Academy) set the new fastest time of 19.33, averaging just over 41 km/h.

Taylor Shelden from the Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis squad then finished in 19:24 to take over the lead which lasted until Nate Brown finished in 19.18.

Jack Bobridge was one of the favourites for the stage and he became the new leader with a time of 18.59.54.

BMC's Taylor Phinney was quickest at the checkpoint and he finished in 18.50.30 to set the new fastest time.

Dan Eaton, the 22 year old Aexeon rider went a second quicker with East Londonder Tao Geohahgen-Hart going provisional third with a time of 18.58.

However, Canadian Rob Britton of Smart Stop put in a super ride and finished in 18.38 to take over the lead just before race leader Rohan Dennis went down the ramp.

Davide Formillo crashed as Rohan Dennis continued to plough on up the road.

Hugh Carthy from Preston, finished in 19.57 as Dennis passed Robbie Squire.

Brent Bookwalter rode well for a time of 18.42 but home came Rohan Dennis of BMC in a time of 18.11.23 to take the victory and extend his lead over Brent Bookwalter by 44 seconds in the race.

Tao Geohagan Hart is sixth with Hugh Carthy in ninth place.
