Garmin-Sharp's Rohan Dennis won the The Tour Of Alberta on a day when Points Winner Peter Sagan won the final stage.

The fifth and final 129km stage from Okotoks to Calgary saw an early attack from Stage Four winner Cadel Evans, Damuseau, Tvetcov and Zirbel.

That was mopped up by the peloton including race leader Rohan Dennis who had an eighteen second lead over BMC's Brent Bookwalter after ten kilometres.

There was a number of attacks which were dealt with before Stemper, Haga, Hamlton, Lewis, Beppu, Farabaugh, Jones & Dahl took to the front after 39kms.

Kris Dahl, who had won a competition to ride for Smartstop in this race, took the King Of The Mountains climb which did nothing to affect Tom Slagter from winning the KOM title.

The break, which had a lead of less than a minute with 26kms remaining, started to attack each other.

Orica GreenEdge's Fumiyuk Beppu, James Stemper of 5-hour Energy and Adam Farabaugh of Equipe Garneau-Québecor led going into the last four finishing circuits with a 15 second gap.

There were big crowds in Calgary and they saw the trio keep their fifteen second lead.

With just over five kilometres to go, Stemper looked behind him and clipped Farabaugh's back wheel and went down. This unsettled the other two and Beppu was quickly swallowed up by the peloton which had 5 Hour Energy on the front as was Farabaugh with one lap of 3.3kms to go.

Brent Bookwalter second on GC went for the win but Cannondale's Peter Sagan, the points winner, went down the middle and won with ease in 2.42.20, giving it a lasso style celebration on the line, ahead of Mezgec, Forster Keough and Brochner.

Rohan Dennis won the race by fifteen seconds from Brent Bookwalter, followed by Caruso, Gretsch and Gesink. Peter Sagan was 26th overall.
