Katusha's Joaquin Rodriquez won the Giro di Lombardia this afternoon.

This annual end of season classic from Bergamo to Lecco was a punishing 251kms long and saw Romain Bardet (AG2R), Emanuele Sella (Androni), Steve Morabito (BMC), Stefano Locatelli (Colnago), Johan Esteban Chaves (Colombia), Alberto Losada (Katusha), Cristiano Salerno (Liquigas), Tom Jelte Slagter (Rabobank), Nicki Sörensen (Saxobank) and Federico Rocchetti (Utensilnord Named) in the first real break of the day.

Garmin and Ireland's Dan Martin was often at the front but he struggled with the pace and it was down to eleven riders with less than a hundred kilometres to go.

Rodriquez and Alberto Contador attacked on the  Colma di Sormano and brought back Bardet and Losada.

Next up was the Ghisallo and it saw a number crash on the descent in heavy rain.

Team Sky and Katusha did the work at the front and Katusha were able to get Joaquin Rodriquez in a position from where he went on to win the race in a time of 6.36.27,beating Samuel Sanchez and Team Sky's Rigoberto Uran.

Giro Di Italia winner Ryder Hesjesdal finished sixth with Danny Martin sixteenth.
