Colnago's Domenico Pozzovivo won the third stage of the Giro Del Trentino in Italy this afternoon.

Stage three was a 167.8km stage from Piccoli Frutti to Brenzone.

The speed was around 45kms and saw the riders blast through the flat stages before the final climb of the Veleno which is a 10km 10% climb and was being used for the first time in a professional race.

Montagutti was in an early break which was caught mid-way through the stage on a cold day.

Pink jersey wearer Mathias Frank of BMC was pushing hard at the front of the peloton which started on the Veleno.

Bassan, De Luca and Aniollii took a wrong turn after following a motorbike and lost their placing in the field which was wending its way up a very narrow road, so narrow that no cars were allowed.

Colnago's Domenico Pozzovivo took to the front with Lampre's Damiano Cunego and Androni's Jose Rujano in pursuit in an attempt to ride himself into the leader's pink jersey.

Pozzovivo was first over the climb on roads that would not have been out of place on an edition of "World's Dangerous Roads" and started on the descent with Pole Sylvester Szymd trying to catch him.

Pozzovivo kept going an won the stage in a time of 4.04.

Szymd came in second and Cunego came in third over a minute behind to put Pozzovio in the pink.
