Chris Froome is the new leader of the Tour De France but he will not ride stage seven in the leader's yellow jersey.

Tony Martn was the leader of the race and finished stage six despite crashing following a touch of wheels with two kilometres to go.

However, Martin has been forced out of the race with a fractured collarbone which he is having surgery on, in a hospital in Hamburg, Germany.

Froome, who lost his jersey to the Etixx Quick Step rider on stage four, will take over the lead of the race with a thirteen second lead over Tejay van Garderen (BMC) and fifteen seconds over Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) but chief commissaire Guy Dobbelaere has told the Belgian press: "Tony Martin was the leader of the Tour on Thursday night after the sixth stage.

"Now he is on longer in the race, then there is no leader. I have communicated the decision to race director Thierry Gouvenou, who also agrees."

Chris Froome confirmed the news with the Team Sky rider tweeting at 8.20am this morning: "For those asking, I won’t be wearing yellow today! All the best to @tonymartin85 with his op & recovery "
