Money Could Force Cult Energy Team To Finish

A lack of money could force the Cult Energy cycling team to fold.

The Danish team, which includes British rider Russell Downing, along with Linus Gerdemann, Fabian Wegmann and Gustav Larsson, have been looking for a new sponsor since last year but so far have been unsuccessful in finding a sponsor.

The team could now fold after September 13th and sports director Michael Skelde told dr.dk: “After September 13, we have decided to stop our race program, because we now have a limited amount of money, so we cannot run the last month of the season.

“I’m still optimistic, but I understand if our riders are in despair about the team’s future. They are now informed about the situation and we will not stand in the way if a rider changes teams.”

Bjarne Riis, who was sacked by Tinkoff Saxo, has been cited by some media outlets as a possible saviour but as it stands, the team could be history in mid September.
