Martin The World Time Trial Champion

Tony Martin regained his title as the World Time Trial Champion.

Fifty eight riders took the the 43.6km course in Valkenburg which included the three climbs of the Sint Remigiusstraat, the Bundersburg and the Cauburg.

Carlos Oyarzun of Chile set the early fastest time of 1:02:42.19, before Alex Dowsett, who was the only British representative after Chris Froome withdrew, took to the road.

Ricardo Zoidl of Austria, then came home in a time of 1:01:36.03 before Dmitriy Gruzdev (Kazakhstan)  beat his time of 1:00.35, which was still the best when World Champion Tony Martin, the final rider went down the ramp.

Alex Dowsett came with the second best time before Marco Pinotti was forced to withdraw.

Tony Martin passed Alberto Contador who started two minutes ahead of him as Vasil Kiryienka (Belrussia) set the new fastest time of 1:00:23.75.

Martin (pictured below) was now quicker by eight second from Taylor Phinney at the 34km time check.

Phinney came in with a time of 58.44.13 but Martin retained his time trial by coming in 5.38 seconds quicker to take the victory.
