It has been confirmed that World Champion Michal Kwiatkowski is leaving Etixx Quick Step.

The Pole, who abandoned the Tour De France on stage seventeen, will leave the Belgian based team at the end of the season.

His departure was confirmed by Etixx Team boss Patrick Lefevre who told Sporza:

Two years ago Kwiatkowski completely cracked in order to be eleventh in the Tour. That’s why I advised him not to go for GC. He was pretty mad at me.

“That’s one of the reasons that Kwiatkowski will leave us. But a rider is like a car. You can have a big engine but you also have your body.

"If he is 10 kilograms heavier than the real climbers, Quintana will always drop him.”

Team Sky are being report as already having offered Kwiatkowski a contract as they seek to find a replacement for Richie Porte who is leaving, probably for BMC.
