Kump New Tour Of Croatia Leader

Marko Kump of the Adria Mobil team is the new leader of Tour Of Croatia.

After yesterday's finish in Split won by Greg Bole of Polish side CCC Sprandl, stage two was from Šibenik to Zadar, the fifth largest city in Croatia and was 204kms long.

One hundred and forty nine riders from fifteen pro continental teams, three continental teams and the Italian Amateur team started the stage on the Eastern side of Adriatic coast.

The speed was high early on a day when temperatures were at twenty degrees.

Two riders were clear for msot of the race is Steff Van Zummeren of the Verandas team and Taco Van Der Hoorn of the Joins-De Reijke team. 

Van Der Hoorn took the days King Of The Mountains climb after 39 kilometres and Van Zummeren took the first and second sprint and the pair were 2.05 clear with 48.3kms left.

CCC Sprandl and Rusvelo were on the front of the peloton and with thirty kilometres to go, the duo were only fifteen seconds clear.

Two kilometres later, they were caught and CCC rgained the lead of the race.

As the riders got into Zadar with twelve kilometres remaining, there was a crash seeing one rider go down.

On narrow twisty roads of the first of two five kilometre closing laps, no-one was willing to try and get away until a Rusvelo rider in Igor Belkin came over the finish line thinking he had won but in fact he had another five more kilometres still to go.

Three kilometres later and the race leader punctured and took no part in the sprint which saw Marko Kump, the 26 year old Slovenian of the Adria Mobil team, who had finished third on the opening stage take the win in 4.50.40 ahead of Pawel Franczak, Roman Maikin, Filippo Fortin and Davide Vigano.

Kump, who was at Tinkoff Saxo last season now leads the race going into the 228km stage from Lago Plitvice to Monte Vojak.
