Kristof Goddaert RIP

The world of cycling is a sadder place after IAM Cycling's Kristof Goddaert was killed in a training accident on Tuesday afternoon.

The Belgian was training in Antwerp and according to Sporza TV, he fell on a train crossing and was hit by a passing bus, killing him immediately at 2.10pm local time.

The 27 year old raced professional for teams Topsport-Vlaanderen, Ag2r La Mondiale before joining the Swiss based Pro Continental IAM Cycling team in 2013.

Goddaert only have one victory and that was a stage victory in the 2010 Tour de Wallonie.

IAM Cycling's General manager Michel Thétaz declared "This ia a disaster for the entire team who are devastated by this terrible news.

"First, we are presenting our sincere condolences to his family and assure them of our support in this terrible ordeal.

Cycling and IAM have lost Kristof Goddaert an exemplary professional rider and a man of quality.

"H
e had arrived here in December 2012 with a great desire to meet with us and take on a new challenge.

"His good mood everyday, his enthusiasm and willingness to engage fully in what he undertook, are many qualities that were highly appreciated."
