Key Front Row Players Confirmed For Cov Rugby

Coventry Rugby Club are pleased to announce, that a further two experienced members of last season’s squad, all from the front row have been retained.

Matt Price and Chad Thorne have all signed on again once again giving stability and consistency to Coventry Rugby for the new season, currently making 19 players retained from last season.

In addition, with the retirement of hooker Chris Locke , Coventry Rugby are pleased to announc...e the signing of hooker Devlin Hope, a British passport holder currently playing in South Africa, Coventry Rugby’s 4th new signing so far revealed.

Matt Price, hooker aged 32 starts his 6th season at Coventry Rugby, joining Coventry after spells at Bedford Blues and Rugby Lions. Having played more than 100 league games for Coventry Rugby, Matt made 25 starts last season , scoring 4 tries. Head of Community Rugby at Coventry Rugby, Matt is responsible for taking rugby into schools as well as the popular rugby camps at the BPA, with full-time “Sports Ambassadors” who are 1st team players that are qualified sports coaches working in the Community, who have provided more than 500 hours of community work over the past season.

Chad Thorne aged 25, mainly a tight head prop joined Coventry Rugby at the start of season 2013/14 from Hartpury College ,but had an injury hit first season, however last season Chad made 21 appearances including 16 starts, scoring 1 try.

Devlin Hope, aged 25, has played for Gauteng Province club The Valke for the past 2 seasons and has appeared, both in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup. Devlin has also been a member of the Western Province training squad. Devlin will provide exciting competition for the crucial hooker role with Matt Price.

Coventry Rugby are disappointed that centre Mark Hodgkiss who joined them late on last season, but suffered a serious injury sustained at the end of the season, a scan has revealed more damage than first thought, so Mark will not be joining Coventry Rugby for the forthcoming season
