Jens Debusschere Wins Omloop Houtland

Jens Debusschere of Lotto Soudal has won the Omloop Houtland race in Lichtervelde, Belgium.

This UCI 1.1 race which was 199.5kms long and attracted a 162 strong field of mainly European riders with British riders Scott Thwaites and Daniel McLay amongst those competing.

The peloton was all together for the opening forty kilometres with the first hour raced at 44.6kmh.

Tussveld, Barbier, A.Vermote and Pons did get into a break and were 2.13 ahead after fifty kilometres of racing.

After Marcel Kittel of Giant Alpecin abandoned, the four were brought back and for the final forty kilomtres, Mol and Tusveld were in front.

They were joined by Lukas Wisanowski and with twenty five kilometres remaining, they had a lead of only twenty seconds with LottoNL-Jumbo and Lotto Soudal doing the chasing on the head of the peloton.

The trio stayed away until inside the final kilometre and Jens Debusschere took the sprint ahead of Tim Dupont, Coen Vermelfoort, Max Vantomme and Max Walscheid with McLay (Bretagne-Séché Environnement) finishing tenth.
