The only German rider to have won the Tour De France - Jan Ullrich has admitted to doping.

Ullrich, who won the 1997 Tour De France, was banned in 2012 for failing a test. Later, the German confessed to having had contact with Spanish sports doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, who was at the centre of the Operacion Puerta doping case.

Speaking to Focus Magazine, Ullrich said; "Almost everybody back then took performance-enhancing substances. "I didn't take anything which the others were not taking.

"For me, betrayal only begins when I gain an advantage, but that was not the case. I just wanted to ensure equal opportunities."
