Orica GreenEdge's Darryl Impey has won the third stage of the Bayern Rundfahrt.

A day of three climbs and three sprints on a 232.7km stage from Grassau to Neusäß started with a category two climb at Samerberg which Jens Voigt of Trek Factory racing took.

The highly popular father of the peloton had got himself into a four man break with Tino Thomel of Team Stuttgart, Sebastian Deckert of Team Brandenberg and Rodrigo Parra or Caja Rural, which was 7.12 ahead after 42kms, just before Thomel took the sprint at Bad Feilnbach.

After 94kms, their lead was holding steady at 6.50 as Derkert took the second climb.

Thomel took the second sprint and with forty kilometres to go, the trio had a lead of three minutes.

Jens Voigt decided to launch an attack which saw Thomel get straight on the wheel of his fellow countryman, until Voigt dropped him with 27kms to go.

Voigt had a lead of 1.40 over the peloton which was now being led by MTN Qhubeka and Orica GreenEdge.

Voigt was caught with two kilometres to go by Orica GreenEdge's Darryl Impey and the South African took the victory ahead of Janse Van Rensburg, Porsev,  Bauhaus, Haussler, Ciolek, Vigano, Huatrovich, Schwarzmann and Krieger.

Mathias Frank of IAM Cycling keeps his lead.
