Chris Froome has said that he was lost for words after storming away to win stage ten of the Tour De France and extend his lead in the race

Froome said: “I’m lost for words. “That was textbook today and I am over the moon that I was able to finish it off for them.”

Second placed Richie Porte said: “I felt bad picking Nairo Quintana’s pocket but it is a race and Chris was absolutely fantastic today and I take my hat off to Geraint Thomas as well. He was big on GC and could have sat behind me but he didn’t and put in a great pull to soften everyone up.”

Movistar’s General Manager Fabio Unzue said: “We were taken by surprise. We were hoping to at least keep parity with Team Sky, especially with Chris and his battle with Nairo but we just were not able to compete with them at the end and it is a remarkable ride from Chris who has extended his lead in the yellow jersey. “When people are performing like that, then there is nothing you can do about it. We just have to go back and look ahead to the next stage.”

Tinkoff Saxo’s DS Sean Yates said: “Very impressive performance by Froome and his team. Richie Porte in second place, Geraint Thomas up there, Chris climbed that mountain very very fast and a lot of riders had a bad day. We saw lots of people hurting big time in the stage and when Alberto was on a climb and we thought it was a good day, the chase down of Porte and Thomas was the end for Alberto and he had to cut his losses as Froome was flying and the gap kept growing.”

Alberto Contador said: “I did not feel great today at all. I was not able to breathe well and could not feel my legs. It was not a good day and a day that did not go well.”
