Hushovd Wins Tour Of Poland Fifth Stage

BMC's Thor Hushovd won the 70th Tour Of Poland Fifth Stage.

A day of 160,5kms of riding from Nowy Targ to Zakopane including six mountain climbs and one sprint with the final 81kms divided into two laps.

Fourteen riders launched an initial attack but were brought back. Another six man break started and they too were caught as was  Sylwester Szmyd who had tried to get away. 

Another break was successful and this time - Michael Golas, Frank Mathias, Marczynski, Veikkanen, Darwin Atapuma, Morajko, Mihaylov, Cieśijk.

Marczynski took the first Tauron mountain climb of the day as the escapers extended their lead to 1.35.

That went out to 4.05 by the time of the second climb after 76kms which Marczynski took the maximum points on again.

Onto the bell lap and with the peloton having to go past a car which was stalled on the finish line, the gap was 1.12.to the escapers who had shed Atapuma.

With 26.1kms remaining, the escapers time at the front was over and the riders started on the descent at a high pace.

Bradley Wiggins worked on the front for Team Sky as attacks started with AG2R's Christophe Riblon in a group which was off the front with less than three to go.

Thor Hushovd, who won the second stage came to the front as the main teams tried to establish a sprint train.

Into the final kilometre and Rigoberto Uran was leading out Henao. Up came Horshovd and he took the win in a time 3.54.40 ahead of Ladagnous and Ratto.
