Thor Hushovd  has won the sixth stage of the Vuelta a España.

This was a 151km stage from Carvacac De Cruz to Murcia and the usual breakaway got up to 9min.17seconds clear before they were chased down with Cofidis doing most of the work.

As the riders headed for the finish line on Avenida Miguel Indurain in Murcia, Bbox's Freddy Bichot went for glory with over 30km to go. He built up a lead of 36 seconds but he was caught by Alexandre Kolobnev at the front of the peleton with less than 20km to go.

Katusha and Cervelo led the way as a big group of about thirty riders geared up for a flat out sprint.

Gilbert went early but it was Thor Hushovd (pictured below), who will race for Garmin sext season, who took the win in 3hr 26 mins and 20 seconds with Bennatti second, Grega Bola third, Australian Allan Davies in fourth and Ireland's Nicholas Roche in tenth.

Phillippe Gilbert keeps the leaders red jersey.

Tomorrow's seventh stage is from Murcia to Orihuela and is 181km long.
