Halford's Tour Series Starts Tomorrow

Last updated : 23 May 2011 By Peter Hodges

Durham is poised to launch 2011 edition of The Halfords Tour Series this Tuesday 24th May

Bringing the thrills and spills of professional cycling up close to thousands of spectators the calendar of eight city centre cycle events is action-packed. With emphasis on teams rather than individual cyclists, ten top British teams battle it out for the coveted Halfords Tour Series title.

For the first race riders from as far afield as Canada, Australia and New Zealand will race a tough, cobbled course in the historic city of Durham.

Mick Bennett, Technical Director of The Halfords Tour Series said: "Durham proved to be one of the iconic rounds of the 2010 Halfords Tour Series, and it will certainly start this year's series in the most spectacular way."

"Any team who wants to win this year's Halfords Tour Series will have to be on top of their game from the off. The pressure is really on the teams this year, as one poor round could damage their chances of pulling on the five Halfords orange leader's jerseys.

"This means spectators coming to Durham, or any of the other seven rounds can expect exciting racing right from the off, so I'd urge people to come along to their local round, and experience just what The Halfords Tour Series is all about."

Highlights of Round One from Durham will be shown on ITV4 at 20.00 on Wednesday 25th May, with a repeat on Thursday 26th May at 11.00.

Beginning on Tuesday 24th May, the races are every Tuesday and Thursday throughout May and June taking place at Durham, Aberystwyth, Peterborough, Colchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Oldham, Woking and Canary Wharf, which hosts the Grand Finale on Thursday 16th June.
