The ring road in Coventry will be closed tomorrow as cyclists take to the road as part of the Godiva Awakes Homecoming.
Cyclists of all abilities can take part in two ‘Ride the Ring Road’ waves in the morning before joining Godiva’s cavalcade: an Advanced Wave at 9am aimed at regular and experienced cyclists and The Leisure Wave at 10.30am, more suitable for families, new or returning cyclists and those who simply wish to enjoy an opportunity to ride around the city on closed roads.
Pre-registration is advisable, but not essential.
Godiva Awakes Programmes
Godiva Awakes – The Homecoming Full programme:
* 9am – Ride the Ring Road Advanced Wave
* 10.15am – Ride the Ring Road Leisure Wave
* 11am – Exhibition of Godiva’s coat and journey to London opens in the Cathedral ruins
*11.30am – Invitational Lap Challenge featuring “Man vs Bike”. Runners will challenge weird and wonderful bikes to see who can make it around the course first.
* 12 noon Godiva Cavalcade – join Godiva as she rides around the ring road on board the famous Cyclopedia that carried her from Coventry to London during the 2012 London Olympics. Whether on bike or on foot you can join her homecoming procession.
* 12 noon – 2pm – Godiva Awakes choir, drummers, aerialists and dancers will perform in and around the city centre precinct
* 2.30pm – Godiva arrives in Broadgate
* 3pm – Welcome speeches from the City including The Mayor of Coventry.
*3.15pm – Godiva walkabout – street performances including Crocodile Style Street Band, the Natural Theatre Company, Boot Works and Pif Paf’s amazing cycle contraptions in and around Broadgate and the Cathedral ruins
* 5pm – Godiva rests in the Cathedral Ruins
* 9pm – Speech by the Dean of the Cathedral and candle lighting
* 12 midnight – ends
