Phillipe Gilbert of BMC has won the fourth and final Tour of Beijing in China.
The fifth and last stage was a 117km stage from Tiananmen Square to Bird's Nest Piazza of thirteen circuits in Olympic Park and saw Gilbert going into the final stage with a three second lead over Garmin Sharp's Dan Martin who had won the fourth stage.
Laurent Mangel of FDJ in his last race for the French team and Tosh Van der Sande of Lotto Belisol formed a break and were two minutes clear with twelve laps left.
With a lead of 2.47, Mangel took the first sprint and the pair briefly took their lead up to 3.17 before the second sprint which Mangel also won ahead of Van der Sande, Rensberg and Uran.
The lead was at 2.13 with four laps left and the peloton with Giant Shimano and Team Sky on the front started to bring the two back.
Onto the bell lap of eight kilometres with a lead of 1.30 and their lead was dropping all the time.
British rider Simon Yates of Orica Green Edge crashed with four kilometres left but was able to continue.
The gap continued to drop and inside the final kilometre, Mangel and Van Der Sande were passed by the peloton which had Belkin in their final race, on the front with three riders.
However, out of nowhere came Sacha Modolo of Lampre to win in 2.40.18 ahead of Greg Henderson of Lotto, Team Sky's Edvald Boasson Hagen, Tyler Farrar of Garmin Sharp and Moreno Hofland of Belkin with British rider Ben Swift in eighth.
Gilbert finished in 34th and with Dan Martin in 59th place, the Belgian rider had won the race overall with his three second margin. Estaban Chaves of Orica Green Edge who was nine seconds down rounded out the peloton.
Gilbert said that he was delighted to win and said: “It's been a great experience and I'm glad that my name is on this palmares. “It's special to finish here with these monuments around us. It's nice to have a chance to ride in a place like this.”
Michal Golas of Omega Pharma Quick Step won the King Of The Mountains Competition, with Tyler Farrar beating Luka Megzec by a point to win the Green Points jersey. Chaves won the Young Riders competition whilst Orica Green Edge came away with the team prize.
