Gilbert Triumphs In Canada

Phillipe Gilbert won the Quebec Grand Prix cycling event today.

The Belgian who has had a cracking season in his last for Omega Pharma Lotto, won the 201km, 16 lapper around the Canadian city beating Rabobank's Robert Gesink and Team Sky's Uran Rigoberto.

The race, which had a strong field,  had been dominated by a trio of Herrada Lopez, Salerno and Hurel r who got away on the first lap and helped themselves to most of the points before they were dragged back before the end of the penultimate lap. 

Gilbert, in his Belgian national kit, made his move wiith 16kms to go. He let the chasing group that included Levi Leipheimer, catch him and do some work before he made another move to just win the race in a time of 5hrs and 3 mins, picking up the 16,000 euros first prize.
