Froome Wins Velo d'Or

Team Sky's Chris Froome has won the 2013 Velo d'Or award.

Froome, who won the  Criterium du Dauphine, the Tour de Romandie and the 2013 Tour De France was named as the best rider of the year  a poll of cycling journalists, organised by French cycling publication Velo Magazine.

Nairo Quintana, was voted The Best Young Rider after a great season saw the Colombian finish as runner up, King Of The Mountains and Best Young Rider in the Tour De France and AG2R's Christophe Riblon the best French rider. 

Froome said to the Team Sky website: "To win an award as significant as this is a fantastic way to cap an incredible season. I was fortunate enough to win the International Flandrien trophy a few weeks ago and to win this one as well is really satisfying.

"I'd like to thank all the people who voted for me, and while it's nice to be recognised for my achievements, my team-mates deserve credit as well because I couldn't have achieved what I've achieved this year without them."
