Chris Froome has been taken to hospital after crashing on heat eleven of the Vuelta a España.

Froome went down early in the stage and had treatment from the race doctor on his left shoulder and leg.

The 2013 and 2015 Tour De France winner finished more than eight minutes down and was taken to hospital for an x ray.

The Team Sky rider will have an MRI scan this morning as he is in a lot of pain when putting weight on one side and a decision will be made if he will start stage twelve tomorrow.

Froome tweeted: "Knocked sideways into a barrier and stonewall today: Further scans in the morning but start unlikely as I cannot walk without crutches."
