Lance Armstrong finished fifth in the prologue of the Tour Of Luxembourg tonight.

The American, who had been forced to withdraw from the Tour Of California, following a crash which left him with a gashed cheekbone, was expected to take the opening stage around a 2.6km circuit in Luxembourg Ville.

Speaking on his Twitter page, Armstrong said that he felt steady and the crowds and atmosphere was great.

The stage was won by Saur SojaSun's Jimmy Engoulvent, who finished in a time of 3 mins, 41 secs.

Team Sky's Brit's Ian Stannard was 91st with team-mate Ben Swift 105th.

One race not going ahead is the Tour Of Ireland. This year's race has been scrapped due to what www.cyclingnews.com are reporting as a 'shortfall in sponsorship'

"Despite significant commercial and public sector funding, current economic conditions have meant that the additional investment required to make the event viable has not been forthcoming in time for this season.

"We fully intend to bring it back for 2011 when the private sector environment is stronger," said Alan Rushton in a press statement.

Bradley Wiggins won't be riding until the end of the month. The East Londoner is resting up after a gruelling Giro D'Italia and will ride in the compulsory British National Championships at the end of the month before he takes on the Tour De France which starts in Rotterdam on July 3rd.
