Ferrand-Prevot Wins Giro Rosa Stage 5

The first uphill finish doesn't make big gaps but it is once more a finish for true cycling champions. Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (Rabo-Liv), the road and cyclocross world champions is the winner of the 5th stage (Trezzo sull'Adda - Aprica, 128 kms). Nothing happened right after the start, where the President of the Italian Cycling Federation gave the honour of his presence.The bagarre begins in Edolo, at the start of the final climb, with the attack of the Ukrainian Champion Tatiana Riabchenko (Inpa Sottoli Giusfredi), gaining about 20'', and a group tries to reach her. The Pink Jersey Peloton controls the race until 6 kms to go where Claudia Lichtenberg (Liv-Plantur) attacked. With 40 cyclists in the front, the attacks succeeded, first with Francesca Cauz and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, then with other three athletes. Just Pauline Ferrand Prevot finds the right moment to sprint and gain one second to the group regulated by the Pink Jersey Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team, 3rd place for Anna Van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv).
The Giro stays in Valtellina for one more day, tomorrow the 6th stage goes from Tresivio to Morbegno.
