Orica Green Edge's Caleb Ewen has won the 2015 Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic.

The classic consists of four criterium races and saw Ewen win the races in Ritchie Boulevard, Eastern Park and Portarlington but not the final race in Williamstown which was won by Greg Henderson riding for the New Zealand national team.

Ewen finished fifth in the final race which gave him a final total of forty two points to win the classic ahead of Greg Henderson with twenty five points and team mate Michael Hepburn with seventeen points.

“I am a little bit (surprised),” Ewan said of his form to the Orica Green Edge press office. “You never know how your form is going to be coming into the first part of the year.”

“I found this stage tougher (than yesterday) because even if you’re sitting on the wheel you can’t hide from the hills so it was really tough for me.

“But the main reason is because I have such a strong team here. In the previous years no full pro teams have come here in support of one rider and that’s what they have done for me.”
