Sigma Sport cycling team have announced that they have not been able to secure a joint title sponsor to continue their UCI team in 2014.

A press statement says: "It is with regret this morning that the cycle retailer Sigma Sport announces that its race team will not contest the 2014 season. Sigma Sport has been supporting the UK racing scene for over 10 years and throughout that time built a reputation as one of the leading domestic teams, helping to develop the sport and always competing with an aggressive racing style to animate races such as the Tour Series, Premier Calendar and the Tour of Britain.

"In mid September and after two years as title sponsor, IG Markets decided they would not be renewing their sponsorship for the 2014 season. At this point Sigma Sport and the team management sought a new title sponsor but despite much interest, were unable to secure a contract that would help fund the team in the increasingly competitive UK racing scene.

"Sigma Sport intends to use 2014 as a year to continue the search for a new title sponsor with the aim of competing as a UCI team again in 2015. Ian Whittingham, Managing Director at Sigma Sport said “It’s sad to see the team come to an end after so many years but we are certainly going out on a high after our great performance at the Tour of Britain this year. I’d like to thank the riders, staff and sponsors past and present for their commitment and support over the years helping to make it a memorable and rewarding time in the peloton”
