Durasek Takes Over Tour Of Turkey Lead

Kristian Durasek of Lampre-Merida has taken over the lead of the 51st Presidential Tour Of Turkey on a day when Pello Bilbao of Caja Rural took the sixth stage.

Davide Rebilin of CCC Sprandi who had increased his lead in the race to twenty two seconds led the riders out on a 184km stage from Denizli to Selcuk.

Rudolph (Drapac), Salomein (Topsport), Jans (Wanty) and Akdilek (Torku) formed the first break of the day after fifty five kilometres and they took a lead which maxed at 2.55 and at the Beauty Sprint with 62kms left which was won by Roy Jans, their lead was 2.31.

Onto the King Of The Mountains climb and the gap had dropped to a minute.

Akdilek was dropped by the escapers with twenty seven kilometres to go and four kilometres later, they were passed and Salomein of Topsport attacked from the peloton.

At the summit, Kenny De Ketele (Topsport) took the KOM prize ahead of red jersey wearer Juan Pablo Valencia and Chinese rider Xu Gang of Lampre-Merida.

Into the final ten kilometres and the peloton were altogether with Lampre on the front.

Onto the final climb by the entrance to Fez, which has average gradients of 7.6% with a maximum of 12%, UnitedHealthCare, Tinkoff Saxo and MTN Qhubeka had riders on the front with the race leader well placed in this front group of twenty or so riders.

With 2.9kms to go, an Astana rider in Lopez attacked with Jay McCarthy. Lopez shelled McCarthy and took a seventeen second lead with 1.5kms left. Mas Bonet and Durasek, who was second on general classification, some 22 seconds down on Rebelin, went after Lopez as did Bilbao and Parra.

Rebelin was distanced as Pelo Bilbao got up to Lopez.and with 100 metres to go, Bilbao won in 4.38.46 ahead of Lopez, Parra and De Gendt.

Kristian Durasek of Lampre finished third and with Reblin finishing a minute down, Durasek was the new race leader with a 21 second lead with two stages to go.

Stage seven is 166.3kms long from Selcuk to Izmir.
