Dowsett Wins Commonwealth Games Time Trial

Alex Dowsett has won the Commonwealth Games Mens Time Trial event.

BMC Rider Steve Cummings had set the early fastest time, before the Englishman was beaten by Sven Tuft who clocked a time of Tuft goes fastest in 48:33.24 on the Ayrshire course.

Welsh hopes rested with Geraint Thomas and the Team Sky domestique did not disappoint with a finish of 47:55.82 which put him into the lead.

His time lasted until Australian Rohan Dennis finished in 47:51.08 and then former British Time Trial Champion Alex Dowsett of Movistar finished in 47:41.78 to give the Essex hailing rider the gold medal for England with Rohan Dennis taking siliver and Geraint Thomas of Wales the bronze.

In the Women's race, New Zealand's Linda Villumsen was the winner ahead of England's Emma Pooley.
