Dowsett Retains British Time Trial Crown

Alex Dowsett retained his title as British Time Trial champion when he won the British National Time Trial Championships in East Ayrshire.

Dowsett crashed early on on the two laps of a 24.6-kilometre course which attracted crowds of around 3,500, but got up and finished the course in a time of 1-02-30. Matt Bottrill second with a time of 1-02-51, with Team Sky's Ben Swift third also in a time of 1-02-51, Douglas Dewey fourth and Luke Rowe of Team Sky in fifth.

A delighted Dowsett tweeted; "Glad to keep my stripey jumper, growing quite attached to it. Thanks for the support out there. I didn't make that easy for myself. "Also congrats to Matt Bottrill and Ben Swift, Matt is a full time post man mixing it with us full timers. #tiphat."

Joanne Rowsell won the Womens National Time Trial race beating Lizzie Armitstead.

In Ireland, Michael Hutchinson retained the Irish Time Trial Championship at Carlingford, County Louth. Hutchinson won in a time of 50.07, beating David McCann and Colm Cassidy..

In France, Omega Pharma Quick Step's Sylvain Chavanel won the French National Time Trial for the fifth time, finishing in a time of 56.48, beating Jeremy Roy by two minutes and one second.

In Poland, Maciej Bodnar (Cannondale) won the Polish National Time Trial Championship. Bodnar won in a time of 49'30". Omega Pharma Quick Step's Michal Kwiatkowski was second five seconds back with. Mateusz Taciak (CCC Polsat Polkowice) third.
