Degenklob Wins La Vuelta Stage Seven

John Degenklob won the seventh stage of the Vuelta A Espana this afternoon.

Stage seven was a stage with a difference and this 164.2km stage from Huesca - Alcañiz  finished on the motorcycling circuit at Aragón.

Attacks happened from the start and Pablo Lechuga Rodriguez (Andalucia), Javier Francisco Aramendia Lorente (Caja Rural), Frantisek Rabon (Omega Phrama-QuickStep) and Bertjan Lindeman (Vacansoleil), were the main ones to stay away.

With 56kms to go, there was a crash which left Masskant and Tony Martin on the deck, following a touch of wheels.

Lechuga took the sprint at Caspe ahead of Rabon but by the 30km to go mark, their lead was down to a minute. Ten kilometres down the road, it was down to twenty seconds.

Lindeman took the final sprint, some sixteen seconds ahead of the peloton before the riders on another gorgeous hot day, rounded the lake

With 10.5kms to go, there was another crash in the centre of the peloton. At least six riders went down including Stef Clement.

The riders with Flecha on the front entered the circuit with 4.5kms to go. 

Ben Swift and Ian Stannard kept the pace at 47kmph as the riders went for the bunch sprint. Swift missed out as John Degenklob took his third stage of the race ahead of Viviani in a time of 3.48.30.

Joaquin Rodriquez keeps his leaders jersey by ten seconds from Chris Froome.
