Coventry’s 'Terrifying' Troy James failed in his attempt to take the British and Commonwealth super-featherweight titles off Liam Walsh at Copper Box Arena, Hackney Wick, London writes Ziad Chaudry.

The 32-year-old, who 18 months ago was beaten in his first British title attempt by the now WBO world lightweight champion Terry Flanagan, lured himself back from a third-round knocked down with some impressive combinations.

But Walsh, from the Norfolk coastal town of Cromer, was always the dominating fighter and in round eight the cornermen of the Wyken-based boxer understandably threw in the towel to save their man from soaking in further punishment.
 
This was James’s third pro defeat in 22 bouts.
 
Also on the bill saw another James’s stablemate Mike Byles blitzed apart in the opening round of a super-welterweight encounter by Southampton’s Joe Pigford.
