Davison Wins Herald Sun Tour Stage 2

Luke Davison won the second stage of 60th edition of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in Victoria, Australia, today.

Another warm day saw the riders head out of Mitchelton Winery on a 146.6km course through Seymour, Yea, Toolangi to Healesville.

The early breaks were soon brought back by the peloton which was led by race leader Arron Donnelly, who went into the second stage with a lead of fourteen seconds.

There was crash after twenty kilometres which saw Rowan Dever down in the first of two crashes before Neil Van der Ploeg took the first sprint of the day, ahead of Johnson and Leaper.

At 12.20 local time, some fifty minutes after the start, Sam Lowe, who was riding for the British Cycling team retired (pic).

A four man break turned into nine riders comprising of Clarke, Haas, McCarthy, Oram, Cooper, Davison, Beckinsale, Phelan and they had forged a 28sec gap to the peloton after 36 kilometres

Defending Champions Nathan Haas who came in yesterday eleven minutes down took both the King Of The Mountains climbs, before the peloton pulled them all back with 80kms gone.

Then came the second sprint of the day which saw Simon Clarker beat Haas before Davison, Smith, Lewis, Walker, Evans, Horgan took over with just over 100kms gone.
With 30kms left, Wil Walker and Luke Davison took off in front on their own. They got two minutes clear and then 1.18 clear but it was enough for Luke Davison to cross the line and win ahead of Walker and Spark and later be told that he had won.
