Cycling To Get More Money Than Football

Last updated : 17 December 2012 By Kev Monks

The latest round of grass roots funding from Sport England for 2013 to 2017 sees UK cycling getting more funding than any other sport.

Cycling will get £32m, over four years (up from £24.7 million), with football (£30m), Netball (£25.3m), Athletics (£22m) and Swimming (£20m), the top of forty six sports who will receive Sport England funding over the next four years..

A lot of the extra funding has come to due to performances of the cyclists not only in the professional tours with the likes of BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2012 Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour De France, more victories for Mark Cavendish and the emergence of young riders like Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, Ben Swift and Luke Rowe as well the performance of British cyclists at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The amount Sport England will be funding each sport can be seen by clicking on http://www.sportengland.org/pdf/Sport%20England%20NGB%20Investment%202009-13.pdf
