The CPA cycling union arises on the side of BMC and Tinkoff Saxo by asking some real action for the riders safety during the races.

In an open letter, the CPA’s President Gianni Bugno underlines once more what the two teams have requested to the organizers and to the UCI. Bugno asks for an urgent meeting in Aigle with the responsible of the safety road commission. On that occasion the CPA intends to bring the specific safety requests of the riders to light.

“After the recent heavy events during the Vuelta it is evident that the problem is no longer only due to coincidence but a result of inadequate measures in order to prevent such accidents in which the riders are innocent victims” - Bugno said.

The CPA President has already pointed to this problem at the beginning of the season and taken part at numerous meetings with the stakeholders in order to find appropriate solutions. For Bugno it is definitely time to move from words to action:

“It is time to put into practice some measures that we are going to indicate during the meeting with the UCI. We cannot look at this bloodbath caused by superficiality or incompetence. There is a need for more responsibility by all parties involved and foremost by the organizers and the UCI. The riders ask us to do their job without risking their life and we are the riders voice.”
