Coventry Speedsters Chase First Victory

Coventry Devlins Newsagents Cycle Speedway team chase their senior first win of the season tomorrow in the Midland league (Sunday 7th September) when they entertain Wednesfield Dragons at Hearsall Common at the earlier start time of 12.30pm.

The Hearsall Common based team have just one Midland league point – a home draw against Wednesfield Aces – but have just missed out on repeating last year’s successful campaign after a string of narrow defeats.

Team manager Lee Marsh insists his team are on the right track. He said: “Last year we won seven last heat deciders which could have gone either way. This year, those last heat wins have gone against us but we have been very competitive in just about all our league fixtures.

“And this year we have relied completely on our own resources, with no special dispensations we had last year. We have also continued to promote our own home grown youngsters into our senior team and this has started to pay rich dividends”.

Marsh will be without Polish sensation Dominik Rycharski, who has dropped just one

point all season, for tomorrows match. Fellow Pole Konrad Pietak and British finalist Myke Grimes will lead the Coventry attack.

Tomorrow`s supporting fixture (starting at 2pm), will be round 3 of the newly revived Coventry Junior League, with current leaders the Brandon Bees looking to cement their dominant position.

Dashing 12 year old Spencer Sawbridge is the new Coventry Under 13s junior champion. The Coundon youngster produced a flawless display last Sunday afternoon at Hearsall Common to take the title in fine style.

Sawbridge, mounted on a brand new £600 machine, showed maturity way beyond his years in taking his first major honour. Hindered by an unfavourable draw, he stormed to victory with a 16 point maximum, including a stunning win from the back over one of his main rivals, Ollie Morris.

Sammi Marsh continued her superb form in junior competitions this season in taking second place, whilst Morris took third position.
