Bradley Wiggins has blamed fatigue on his poor showing in the Tour De France. The Team Sky rider had been one of the favourites for a podium place but finished 24th in the 2010 Tour which finished in Paris on Sunday.

Speaking to the Guardian, The East Londoner said that he would ride in the Tour Of Britain in September but not the Commonwealth Games or the World Road Race Championships in Australia.

"I've pulled out of the Commonwealth Games, and I'm not going to do the world championships, either. I need a proper break. "Half the reason I wasn't that good at the Tour was because I've done too much already. "Since I finished fourth last year at the Tour it's been almost non-stop, because of the saga that went on all through the winter."

2010 Tour De France winner Alberto Contador is to leave Astana at the end of the season. Rumours had been rife all the way through the tour about his departure from the team from Kazakhstan.

According to www.cyclingnews.com, Astana have issued the following statement "By setting a dead line on July 25 evening of the arrival of the Tour de France and then extending it to 48 hours as he had requested, we thought we had complied with the wishes of Alberto Contador. We have never put any pressure, we have always acted according to his will. His decision to leave does not depend on us but on other outside proposals. We respect his choice, and wish him good luck."

Contador is now being tipped to replaced Andy and Frank Schleck who are leaving Saxo Bank to start up their own team in Luxembourg.
