Coventry Blaze Take Two Goal Lead

Coventry Blaze take a two goal lead into tomorrow's Elite League Play-Off Quarter-Final Second Leg after beating Sheffield Steelers 5-3 at the Sky Dome tonight.

The Blaze went ahead on 3.36 with a powerplay goal from Brett Robinson, assisted by Chris Bruton, who set up Cale Tanaka for a second goal on 17.33.

In the second period, Chris Bruton made it three on 24.35 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Jordan Pietrus and James Jorgensen and had a hand in the fourth goal, which was scored by Carl Lauzon on 26.13.

On 29.34, Kevin Noble made it 5-0, assisted by Jordan Pietrus and Russ Cowley against a Sheffield side which had Jonathan Phillips given a game ban.

Fredrik Vestberg pulled a goal back on 32.14 for the visitors who scored twice in the third period through Robert Dowed on 44.19 and Guillaume Desbiens on 58.29 with a powerplay goal.

However, the Blaze had done enough to give themselves a great chance in the second leg.
