Coquard Wins The Tour Of Langkwai Stage Nine

Europcar's Bryan Coquard won his second succesive stage of the Tour Of Langkwai when he rode to victory on Stage Nine.

The penultimate stage of the race in Malayasia was a 123.6km stage from Pasir Puteh to Kuala Berang and saw six non starters in Fairly (Garmin), Durbridge and Sulzberger (Orica), Murphy (uhc), Gautier (Europcar) and Ayabe (Aisan).

With an attack by Travis Meyer soon snuffed out, the first intermediate sprint of the day came after thirteen kilometres at Jerteh and saw the Vini Fantini take maximum points by having three of their riders in Chicchi, Merlo and Monsalve in the first three positions.

As Garmin's Steele Van Hoff and Jos van Emden of Blanco abandoned the race, attacks came and were soon dealt with.

Stage six winner Tom Leezer was the next to abandon as Liu from Hengxiang and Wijaya from Indonesia managed to get away from the ever diminishing peloton.

After 49 kilometres, they had a lead of 2.58. meaning they were out in front for the second sprint at Permaisuri after 51.8kms which Liu took and still clear when Wijaya won the third sprint after 77.4kms.

Liu won the King Of The Mountains climb and set off on his own. He last until inside the final ten kilometres when he sat up and allowed himself to be swept up by the peloton.

Yet again, the bunch sprint followed and Europcar's Bryan Coquard was first over the line in a time of 2.42.11 ahead of Francesco Chicci and Allan Davis with British rider Andrew Fenn in eleventh.
