Tinkoff Saxo's Alberto Contador won the Tirreno Adriatico on a day where Lampre's Adriano Malori won the final Time Trial.

The final stage seven was a 9.1km time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto and meant that Alberto Contador who had a lead of 2.08 was last down the ramp.

With Cadel Evans of BMC not starting, Movistar's British rider Alex Dowsett, the British Time Trial Champion from Essex, set the early time to beat of 10,33.

That was beaten by Tom Dumoulin of Giant Shimano by a second and then Lampre's Adriano Malori flew in, with a time of 10.13.

That was a time that proved too good for the World Time Trial Champion Tony Martin with the German rider for Omega Pharma Quick Step only able to finish fifteen seconds back on a day where temperatures were around twenty degrees.

Sir Bradley Wiggins could not beat Malori's time either, finishing in 10.24.

On his birthday, Fabian Cancellera was on the road and the Swiss rider caught up to Garmin's Dan Martin and powered away but could only finish in 10.19.

No-one had got near Malori's time by the time, Alberto Contador went down the ramp at 15.57 local time.

Roman Kreiziger who was in a battle for podium places behind Contador finished in 10.53, the same time as Christophe Piraud. This meant that Nairo Quintana needed to finish inside eleven minutes in order to take second place overall. The 24 year old Colombian, finished in 10.51 and guaranteed his runners up spot.

Contador was now on a celebration ride going into the final kilometre and he finished in 10.54 to finish 28th and take the Tirreno Adriatico by 2.05 from Quintana and 2.14 from Kreuziger.
