Clement Wins Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Stage Six

Belkin's Steff Clement won the sixth stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

Pieter Serry (Omega Pharma-Quick Step),  Steff Clement of Belkin, Damien Howson (Orica-GreenEdge), Pierre Rolland (Europcar), Jens Voigt (Trek Factory Racing), Antonio Piedra (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Marek Rutkiewicz (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Rudy Molard (Cofiids) and Nico Sijmens (Wanty Group-Goubert), were the escapers on a sixth stage which was 172kms long from El Vendrell to Vilanova i la Geltru.

On a breezy day, the nine riders were only able to take a four minute lead which was reached by the fifty kilometres mark. 

Lampre and Lotto-Belisol were working to bring the escapers back and the nine had a lead of 1.46 with twelve kilometres remaining.

The group were not to be caught and and it was Steff Clement of Belkin who won in 3.58.44 ahead of  Molard, Serry, Voigt, Rutkiewicz, Piedra, Rollan, Howson, Sijmens and  Van der Sande.

Joaquim Rodriquez of Katusha leads the race going into the final stage which is a downhill run into Barcelona by four seconds from Alberto Contador, seven seconds from Tejay van Garderen, ten seconds from Romain Bardet and Nairo Quintana and seventeen seconds from Chris Froome.
