Chavanel Wins 28th Tour du Poitou-Charentes

IAM Cycling's Sylvain Chavanel has won the 28th Tour du Poitou-Charentes.

The French went into the final stage with a lead of 44 seconds thanks to his victory in the time trial.

On a fifth and final 191.9km stage from Lezay to Poitiers, Planckaert, Laborie, Avila, Van Melsen & Dernis took a 1.20 lead on Rostollan and 3.10 on the peloton.

Rollaston bridged and the leaders were 1.50 clear after 48kms and were still 1.15 clear with 36kms to go.

Their time on the front was not to last and they were caught and with ten kilometres remaining, Nicola Boem and Sutterlin had a lead of 25 seconds. 

Boem and Sutterlin were unable to stay away and were passed by a group of ten riders with two kilometres left.

This group battled it out and Jesus Herrada of Movistar took the stage win with Chavanel taking the overall victory.
