Mark Cavendish won the seventh stage of the Tour of Britain.

A 155km stage from Epsom to Guildford saw race leader Sir Bradley Wiggins roll out with stage favourite and former team-mate Mark Cavendish.

Irishman Dan Martin went out on an early attack but it was Kristain House (RCJ) and Pete Williams (IGS) are joined by Luca Euser (UHC) and Christophe Laborie (SOJ) who were first to get away.

House took the first King Of The Mountains climb - the Category 2 Crocknorth Road climb ahead of Euser and Laborie.

Straight after that came the first Yodel Direct Sprint at Dorking which was won by Pete Williams ahead of Kristian House.

With a lead of three minutes, the quartet came to the Cold Harbour Lane Category 2 climb and again House took the six points with Pete Williams from North Yorkshire taking five and Laborie four.

Pete Williams took the second sprint at Cranleigh and in Woking, to move within five points of leader Angel Madrazo before House took the ten points on the category one Barhatch Lane climb.

With the climbs and sprints over, the finish line was the main goal for the riders and the quartet's lead started to drop.

It was 1.54 with 58kms remaining and into the last thirty kilometres, it was down to 1.34 with another 37 seconds knocked off by the peloton, some thirteen kilometres later.

Inside the last ten kilometres and with the quartet only eleven seconds clear, George Atkins of the British team went after the escapers as did the Omega Pharma Quick Step team.

With six kilometres to go, the escapers were caught and Omega Pharma Quick Step put the hammer down.

Allesandro Pettachi took a long run and onto the cobbles came Mark Cavendish to delight the huge crowds and win, holding off Elia Viviani in a time of 3.46.57 and take his second win in this race. Third was Gerald Ciolek followed by Blaz, Rathe, Pelucchi, Opie, Elmiger, Bozzana and Bennett.

Bradley Wiggins finished safely but lost time to Martin Elmiger and leads by 26 seconds going into the final stage around London.
