Cavendish To Sort Out His Sky Future Today

Last updated : 08 September 2012 By Kev Monks

Mark Cavendish is being reported as having a meeting tonight with Team Sky boss David Brailsford to discuss the future of the best sprinter in the world.

Cavendish, whilst he was happy to play a support role to help Bradley Wiggins win the Tour De France, has made it clear that he would like a team to work for him, like he had at HTC-Highroad.

Speaking at a press conference in Ipswich ahead of the Tour Of Britain which he will ride, Cavendish said to our friends at www.cyclingnews.com;

"It's like a long-distance relationship. Everything's great but you live apart and it can't really work out. You want to be friends and you'd rather the best thing happened so that you can stay close.

"We obviously had ambitions that can't work out. The Tour de France is the hardest sporting event in the world. When you realise that you can't go in with a double-pronged attack…that maybe became apparent at the Tour. I was incredibly proud to be part of the British team that won the yellow jersey with a British rider [Bradley Wiggins]. That was a big thing in my career. Hopefully we can find an amicable solution."
