Mark Cavendish is out of the Tour Of Britain.

The Etixx Quick Step rider collided with a parked car early on stage six and immediately abandoned the race as he was not able to move his arm.

He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Stockport for examination of his left shoulder and nothing was found to be broken.

A contusion, however, was found and his team said that he will have to respect some days of rest before resuming training.

Cavendish was involved in a crash earlier in the race which left him with a broken wheel and his team mate Petr Vakoc out of the race whilst in the leader's yellow jersey.

A tweet from Cavendish read: "Thanks to (who also did my surgery last year) for seeing me so quickly! Relieved there's no break or dislocation this time!"
