World Champion Mark Cavendish was gutted that he was not able to add an Olympic Gold medal to his palmares in Saturday's Olympic's Mens Road Race
After the race, which was won by Alexandre Vinkourov, Mark Cavendish tweeted: "Gutted. After 250km, less than a minute to 20guys. My guys were INCREDIBLE & there was nothing more we could do. Victims of our own success.
"4 heroes in @bradwiggins, @millarmind, @chrisfroome & @IStannard. Rode, with the weight of a nation, until exhaustion. So proud.
"Also, very proud to be British today. The support along the whole 250km was beyond belief. Absolutely incredible. Thank you to everyone."
