Sandy Casar won the ninth stage of the Tour De France this afternoon.

On the 204.5km stage from Morzine-Avoriaz to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, there were five climbs for the riders to tackle on another hot day but the last 50kms were relatively flat.

A break which included Jens Voigt, Cyril Gautier, Jose Ivan Gutierrez, Christophe Moreau, Sandy Casar, Anthony Charteau, Damiano Cunego and Luis Leon Sanchez who, as the the gap went over five minutes and five seconds was the leader on the road.

With 40kms to go, yellow jersey holder Cadel Evans was struggling and could not keep up with Stage Eight winner Andy Schleck and Alberto Contador.

These two made up two minutes on the front runners whilst the group containing Evans was now more than six minutes back.

In the final kilometre, they were chased down but it was Francais De Jour's Sandy Casar who was first over the line with Luis Leon Sanchez in second and Counago in third in a time of 5hr 38 mins and 10 seconds.

Andy Schleck is now in yellow some 41 seconds ahead of Contador.
